Hello, blog

Starting a blog out of the desire to write
Nov 4, 2025

Hello, blog. In the absence of a good name for this first post (and the removal of another thing preventing me from writing it in the first place), that’s what I came up with. Probably the cheesiest introduction I could have come up with, but it fits and I’m quite proud of it.

I’m Trent, and if it wasn’t made clear by the title, I like building software.

Unfortunately, this is not my first attempt at blogging. Almost exactly 3 years ago, I launched my first blog site, promising myself it wouldn’t become another site with a single post.

And that’s exactly what happened. I thought that I’d have a backlog if thing that would need to be blogged about. I would do in-depth technical tutorials, robust project walkthroughs, and if something non-tech related needed my opinion, I’d blog about that too. I’d obvisouly have loads of content that needed to be shared.

And unfortunately nothing came out it. The blog sat untouched for years.

In hindsight, I can see that the problem is that I saw blogging as simply a platform for sharing the work I was doing. And while that may have eneded up being true, I was missing the most important point of starting something centered around writing. The value of the writing itself.

The more I read about the craft of writing - and the more I write - the more I see the truth in what William Sinsser shares in his book On Writing Well, “Writing is thinking on paper. Anyone who thinks clearly can write clearly, about anything at all”.

So, that’s why I’m here. Once again sitting down at a keyboard and writing words to post on the internet. Not out of grand plans of a future filled with activities that would need to be shared. But out of a simple desire to slow down and think more clearly through writing.

I don’t know what I’ll end up writing about, but I’m excited about the simplicity of not having a plan and writing about whatever is capturing my interests. I’m excited to create mental clarity and deeper understanding around the things I’m interested in. And I’m excited to do that through writing.

Maybe people will read this someday, maybe no one will - except for my incredible wife, I’m luckily guaranteed one reader. Either way, it’s becomming clear to me that writing is worth doing, regardless of whether it’s read.

So, here’s to writing at least two blogs posts this time. I’m looking forward to it.
